The ISSA Conference India 2022

Theme: Innovation, Communication and Collaboration in Cleaning and Hygiene

Cleaning and hygiene today has become much more imperative and sought after than ever before. Clean water and sanitation are vital to health, communities and economy. A multipronged approach requires innovations in technology, data planning, monitoring and behaviour change.

The two-day ISSA India conference at Nehru Centre, Mumbai on November 2 & 3, 2022 will focus on the pressing issues and solutions in Cleaning and hygiene from the customer perspective. Industry leaders and experts will discuss cleaning trends and successes, while giving a peek into the future in terms of market data and technology developments that customers can leverage.

A professional cleaning service requires in-depth knowledge of products, procedures, techniques andoperations management and a continuous update on skills. Sustainability of products and operations are the centerpiece in order for the industry to be relevant and significant.

With offices, malls, and other commercial establishments preferring to outsource cleaning jobs, the cleaning sector is going through a growth trajectory.

The cleaning industry is also going through a shift by incorporating disruptive technologies that reduce the amount of physical labour required and increase productivity and efficiency of workers.

The economic consequences caused by inadequate access to sanitation has repercussions at multiple levels. Along with loss of GDP, communities suffer due to decreased productivity and increased expenditure on healthcare. A World Bank study on the economic impacts of poor sanitation in India estimated that the country lost the equivalent of 6.4 percent of GDP due to inadequate sanitation. Over 70 percent of it (`1.75 lakh crore) was accounted for by premature mortality and health-related costs.

Traditionally, sectors like automobiles, IT, pharma, facility management and hospitality were key business drivers, today several other sectors are looking to address their hygiene needs and add value to the current methodology and systems with sustained efforts.

The organized cleaning industry in India has witnessed a growth rate of 30-50 per cent in the last five years with an annual turnover of Rs. 1800 crore.

The facilities management industry is estimated to be valued at Rs. 16,500 crore. The housekeeping industry holds a share of about Rs. 5,000 crore out of this. Further, classifying this industry vertical, the cleaning equipments and chemicals segment holds an estimated market size of Rs. 1,000 crore.
